Abstract

ABSTRACT This study investigated awareness and digital literacy skills as predictors of utilization 0f chatGPT in Amboose Alli University, Ekpoma, Edo state. The research was conducted using a correlation design method and with a population of 2212 undergraduates in the Faculty of social science. A questionnaire was designed on a google form and distributed to 442 students using accidental sampling in the faculty, the number of respondents were 367 which is 83% of the questionnaire distributed. Questionnaire were received and analyzed using descriptive analysis such as simple percentage, standard deviation, mean, and Pearson moment correlation and regression. Findings on the level of awareness with the grand mean of (3.09) shows that respondents have a high level of awareness of ChatPT, undergradutes level of digital literacy specifically for chatGPT was also sassed and findings shows that undergraduates possess low digital literacy skills with a grand mean of (2.32) and they utilize chatGPT in a high extent With the grand mean of (2.89). key challenges found are they have limited control over output generated by ChatGPT, ChatGPT often provide responses with limited vocalbulary responses, and they encounter technical issues such as slow responds, errors etc.The findings further, establish that awareness predict use of chatGP, digital literacy skills predict use of chatGPT ,and awareness and digital literacy skills predict utilization of chatGPT. Based on the findings the researcher therefore, recommends the integration of digital literacy training into university curricula, increasing awareness campaign, providing technical support and establishing guidelines for chatGPT usage. The study therefore highlights the role of awareness and digital literacy in utilization of chatGPT and offering insights into improving the effective use of chatgpt in academies. Wordcount: 271
