Effect of Multimedia Instructional Strategy on the Academic Performance of Secondary School Students in Biology in Ado Local Government.

Abstract
ABSTRACT This study investigated the effects of multimedia Instructional Strategy on secondary school students’ performance in Biology in Ado Local Government Area, Ekiti State. Literatures relevant to the topic were reviewed and three research questions were raised to guide the study. Also, the influence of gender on the performance of students exposed to multimedia Instructional Strategy was examined. The research was a quasi-experimental design. The population of the study comprises of all senior secondary school students in Ado Local Government Area of Ekiti State. The samples used for the study consisted of 200 respondents who were purposively selected from second year senior secondary school 2 students (SSS 2) sampled from four secondary schools. The students pre-test and post test scores were subjected to Student t- test. The findings of the study showed that the performance of students exposed to multimedia Instructional Strategy were better than their counterparts exposed to the conventional classroom instruction. However, no significant difference existed in the performance of male and female students exposed to multimedia Instructional Strategy. Based on the research findings recommendations were made that during the tests and examinations, students be examined on using multimedia instruction to answer Biology questions and urged teachers to utilize to this method, explore other teaching methods and use as many as they can employ to eradicate monotony during Biology lessons.
