Social Studies Teachers' Motivation and Job Performance in Secondary Schools in North East Senatorial District of Akwa Ibom State

Abstract
This study was carried out to determine the relationship between social studies teachers motivation and job performance in secondary schools in North East Senatorial District of Akwa Ibom state. Four research questions and four null hypotheses were formulated to guide the study. The Correlational research design was used for the study. The population of the study consisted of all the 168 Social studies teachers in the 87 public secondary schools in North East Senatorial District. Simple random sampling technique was used in selecting 25 Social studies teachers each from four randomly selected schools. This gave a total of 118 Social studies teachers selected for the study. Data was collected using a researcher developed two instruments named, Motivation Questionnaire (MQ) and Teachers’ Job Performance Questionnaire (TJPQ). It was further subjected to face validity by three experts. The reliability coefficients of MQ and TJPQ were 0.81 and 0.76 respectively determined using Cronbach Alpha Reliability statistics. Data analysis was done using Pearson product moment correlation (PPMC) statistics. The findings of the study revealed that there is a significant relationship between recognition, incentives, promotion and professional development and social studies teachers job performance in North East Senatorial District. Recommendations were made among others that Government should make sure they promote teachers in schools for effective job performance.
