Influence of Teachers’ Characteristics on Chemistry Students’ Achievement in Senior Secondary Schools in Ethiope East Local Government Area, Delta State

Abstract
This study investigated the influence of teachers characteristics of chemistry students academic performance in senior secondary schools in Ethiope East Local Government Area, Delta State. The study was guided by two research questions and two research hypotheses. The study employed ex-post facto type of research design in which students past results were used as main of instrument. The sample size of the study was four (4) chemistry teachers selected from four different secondary schools in the area of study. The collected data were analysized using mean and standard deviation to answer the research questions while t-test statistical analysis were used to test the hypotheses at 0.05 level of significance. The results of the study revealed that; there was a significant difference of chemistry students' achievement between those taught by Masters teachers and B.Sc degree holder, there was no significant difference of chemistry students' achievement between those taught by male and female chemistry teachers and there is a significant difference of chemistry students achievement between those taught by experienced and inexperienced teachers. It was recommended that government should employ both male and female qualified teachers.
