Abstract
The purpose of this study is to examine the history and socio-economic contributions of Oregbeni Market to the growth of Ikpoba-Okha Local Government Area, Edo State. The aim of this research is to explore the historical background of the market, its impact on economic development, and its role in improving the lives of residents. The study adopts a historical research method, utilizing both primary and secondary sources to collect relevant information.The study reveals that the establishment of Oregbeni Market has significantly contributed to the economic advancement of Ikpoba-Okha Local Government Area by facilitating trade, creating employment, and generating income for residents. The market has improved access to essential goods and services, thus enhancing the standard of living. It has alsofostered social cohesion through cultural engagement and strengthened community ties.Furthermore, the study finds that Oregbeni Market has attracted public and private investment, leading to the development of infrastructure and essential public amenities in the area. It plays a vital role in promoting entrepreneurship andsmall-scaleenterprises, contributing to poverty alleviation and reducing unemployment. As a commercial hub, the market has established Ikpoba-Okha as a key center for trade within the region.In conclusion, the study demonstrates that Oregbeni Market serves as a catalyst for sustainable economic growth, community development, and cultural vibrancy,playingapivotal rolein theadvancementof Ikpoba-Okha Local Government Area and the well-being of its residents.
