Abstract
This study investigates the impact of reward systems on academic performance in selected schools within the Epe Local Government area. The primary aim is to evaluate how various forms of rewards such as academic incentives, recognition programs, and material rewards affect student motivation and performance in their academic pursuits. Employing a mixed-methods approach, the research involved quantitative data collection through surveys administered to students and teachers across several schools, along with qualitative interviews with school administrators and parents. The findings indicate that effective reward systems significantly enhance students' motivation and lead to improved academic performance. Specifically, recognition and praise were found to be powerful motivators, while material rewards provided additional incentive for academic achievement. Furthermore, the study identifies the need for schools to implement structured reward systems that recognize both individual and collective achievements, as these foster a positive learning environment and encourage student engagement. In conclusion, the research underscores the importance of a well-designed reward system as a strategic tool for enhancing academic performance. Recommendations are made for schools in the Epe Local Government area to adopt and adapt reward strategies that align with their specific contexts to maximize student success.
