Abstract
ABSTRACT This study was conducted to determine the effects of varying dietary Inclusion levels of sodium benzoate and probiotics (lactobacillus acidophilus) on the litter Chemistry and litter microbial load of Noiler birds. Forty eight (48) 11-week-old Noiler birds were used for the eight (8) weeks experiment. The birds were randomly allocated to four treatment groups (T1, T2, T3, T4) having twelve (12) birds per treatment with three (3) replicates of four (4) birds each. Treatment one (T1) served as control (without Sodium benzoate and probiotics), while the other treatments T2, T3, T4 contained 600g sodium benzoate, 300g Probiotics, 600g SB and 300g Prob. Per 100kg feed, respectively. Data collected under litter chemistry were pH, moisture, Ammonium nitrate, Ammonium sulfate, Ammonia for litter microbial load data collected on was litter microbe count. The results under the litter chemistry showed that T4 diets recorded the lowest value on pH, moisture, ammonium sulfate, Ammonium nitrate, Ammonia and showed higher statistical difference (P 0.01) differences among the treatments with T4 having the highest value under litter Microbial load. It is therefore recommended based on the results of this study that T4 (diet containing 600g of sodium benzoate and 300g of probiotics/ 100kg) helped to ameliorate ammonia concentration in noiler farms while improving productivity.
