Abstract
ABSTRACT The advent of colonialism helped African literature to flourish, from the orality to the written form of literature. This was as a result of the Western education that Africans acquired. Armed with this literacy, Africans were able to react to the travails of Africans under the colonial masters. The lion and the Jewel and Death and the King's Horseman by Wole Soyinka expresses in details the clash of cultures between the whites and Africans. This research compares both plays to determine the differences and similarities in both plays. The research adopted the Qualitative research method. From the findings, the research discovered that there is conflict of culture as a result of European contact and this has led to Eurocentrism. The research recommends that the government should invest. and help in preserving the African cultures and also, the people should be more proud of their cultural heritage to preserve it.
