Abstract
This paper presents the design and modeling of an intelligent traffic control system for the specific case of First Junction, Akpakpava, Benin City to alleviate traffic congestion. The system utilizes vehicle sensors, such as infrared (IR) sensors, to detect traffic density and a microcontroller, like a PIC or Atmega32, to implement a dynamic algorithm that adjusts signal timings. By favoring lanes with higher traffic volume, the system aims to reduce waiting times and improve overall traffic flow compared to traditional, fixed-time systems.
