Awareness and Use of Electronic Database for Effective Retrieval of Information Resources by Undergraduate Students of Faculty of Education in University of Nigeria Nsukka

ABSTRACT This study assessed the awareness and use of electronic databases for effective retrieval of information resources by undergraduate students of the Faculty of Education in University of Nigeria, Nsukka. The study was guided by six (6) lresearch questions. Descriptive survey was adopted for the study. The population is 809. It comprises the3rd year and final year students of the Faculty of Education University of Nigeria Nsukka. The instrument used for data collection is questionnaire. A sample size of 150 respondents was selected using stratified random sampling technique. Out of the one hundred and fifty (150) questionnaires administered. one hundred copies were fully filled and used for the study. Data collected were analyzed using mean and standard deviation. The findings of the study revealed that majority of the students have low level of awareness of electronic databases, and that the use of electronic databases is limited due to lack of training and technical issues. The data also indicated that students who use electronic databases are more likely to retrieve relevant and reliable information resources. The study identified challenges facing the use of electronic databases, including lack of awareness, inadequate training, and technical issues. The study made some recommendations, including the need for the university library to provide regular training and workshops on the use of electronic databases, and for faculty members to promote the use of electronic databases in their teaching and research.
