Abstract
ABSTRACT This study evaluated the effect of Moringa oleifera-supplement diets, on growth performance and hematological parameters of broiler chickens. A total of 10 agrited broilers were used, divided into two treatment groups: one fed a diet containing 10% moringa oleifera leaf meal (MOLM) and 90% corn pulp (experimental diet, ED), and the other fed 100% commercial feed (control diet, CD). The study examined weight gain, feed intake, feed conversion ratio (FCR), organ-to-body weight ratio, and hematological parameters over a four-week period. The results showed that the control diet group significantly performed better than the experimental diet group in terms of weight gain and feed intake. Broilers fed the control diet exhibited higher daily weight gains and lower FCR, indicating more efficient feed utilization compared to those on the experimental diet. Additionally, hematological analysis revealed that broilers on the control diet had higher levels of red blood cells (RBC), hemoglobin (Hb), and packed cell volume (PCV). In contrast, the experimental diet group had lower metabolizable energy and higher fiber content, which negatively impacted growth performance and nutrient absorption. While Moringa oleifera leaf meal shows potential as an alternative protein source due to its high crude protein content, its inclusion at high levels (10%) may limit broiler growth and feed efficiency due to reduced digestibility and lower energy content. Further research is recommended to optimize the inclusion level of MOLM in broiler diets for cost-effective and sustainable poultry production.
