Reward System and Local Government Council Staff Performance in Calabar Municipality of Cross River State

Abstract
This study sought to determine the influence of reward system on Local Government Council staff job performance in Calabar Municipality Local Government Area of Cross River State. In order to carry out this study objectively, four specific objectives, four research questions and four null hypotheses were formulated to guide the study. Survey research design was adopted for the study. The population of the study comprised 2131 senior civil servants from grade level 07 and above. Simple random sampling technique was used in selecting a sample of 102 senior civil servants. A questionnaire titled “Reward System and Local Government Council Staff Job Performance Questionnaire (RSLGCSJPQ)” was used for data collection for this study. The questionnaire was validated by three experts in the Department of Vocational Education, University of Calabar, Calabar, Nigeria. Mean was used in answering the research questions. The one sample t-test was used in testing the null hypotheses at .05 level of significance. The findings of the study revealed that extrinsic, intrinsic, financial and non-financial rewards significantly influence Local Government Council staff job performance in Calabar Municipality Local Government Area of Cross River State. Based on the findings, it was recommended among others that financial rewards significantly influence Local Government Council staff job performance in Calabar Municipality Local Government Area of Cross River State.
