Abstract
Abstract This study examines the effect of Organizational Citizenship Behaviour (OCB) on employee performance in manufacturing firms within the Kaduna Metropolis. In today’s competitive business environment, organizations increasingly rely on employees who go beyond their formal job descriptions to ensure overall success and productivity. OCB, which encompasses behaviors such as teamwork, conscientiousness, and helping others, plays a vital role in fostering a positive and productive work environment. The research adopts a quantitative approach, using structured questionnaires to collect data from employees across selected manufacturing firms in Kaduna. The data were analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistical tools to determine the relationship between OCB dimensions—altruism, conscientiousness, sportsmanship, courtesy, and civic virtue—and employee performance indicators such as efficiency, quality of work, and innovation. Findings reveal a significant positive relationship between OCB and employee performance, indicating that employees who voluntarily engage in supportive and cooperative behaviors tend to perform better and contribute more effectively to organizational goals. The study concludes that promoting a culture that encourages citizenship behavior enhances not only individual performance but also overall organizational productivity. It recommends that management of manufacturing firms in Kaduna Metropolis should recognize and reward OCB, create supportive work environments, and implement policies that nurture employees’ willingness to go the extra mile.
