Students’ Perception of Secondary School Chemistry: a Case Study of Ughelli North Local Government Area, Delta State

Abstract

This study sought to investigate students’ perception of secondary school chemistry and their achievement in Ughelli North Local Government Area, Delta State. The descriptive survey research design was employed to carry out the study using questionnaire to gather information. The sample size used in this study is one hundred and twenty (120) Chemistry students. Simple random sampling technique was used. Data were collected through research instrument (questionnaire) and the questionnaire was validated by Experts in Measurement and Evaluation. The collected data were analyzed using simple percentage and mean to answer the research questions. The study revealed that students’ perception influences secondary school Chemistry and their achievement in Ughelli North Local Government Area, Delta State, there is no difference between male and female students’ perception of secondary school chemistry in Ughelli North Local Government Area, Delta State, and there is difference between positive and negative students’ perception of secondary school chemistry in Ughelli North Local Government Area, Delta State. It was recommended that students should develop positive interest to secondary school chemistry.
