Abstract
This study evaluates the effectiveness of print media campaigns on the danger of environmental degradation on Nigerians. The researcher embarked on this study with the intent of achieving four objectives; and based on the objectives of this study, four research questions were formulated to serve as a guide for this study. This study was anchored on the social responsibility theory and supported by the agenda setting theory. The survey research design was choosen and data were collected through the use of questionnaire. Findings reveal that the reach and audience engagement of existing print media campaigns on the dangers of environmental degradation in Nigeria is very high as majority of the respondents (49%) are usually exposed to these campaigns on weekly basis. The study further revealed that print media campaigns have also influenced energy conservation habits. Many Nigerians have started turning off lights, electronics, and appliances when not in use, reducing energy consumption and carbon emissions. The use of energy-efficient light bulbs has also become more widespread, further reducing energy consumption. Based on the findings of this study, the study recommends that campaign planners should tailor the media campaigns to resonate with the local population in Nigeria by using language, imagery, and examples that are relevant to their everyday lives. Highlighting how environmental degradation directly impacts their health, livelihoods, and well-being can make the message more compelling and actionable.
