Abstract

The rapid urbanization of Kaduna Metropolis has raised concerns about the health and well-being of its residents. This research investigates the relationship between physical activity levels and the overall health of urban residents in Kaduna Metropolis. The study aims to assess the current physical activity patterns, understand the associated health outcomes, and propose interventions to promote physical activity among urban dwellers. Utilizing a mixed-methods approach, including surveys, interviews, and environmental assessments, data was collected from diverse demographic groups within selected urban neighborhoods. The results reveal significant correlations between physical inactivity and various health issues, including obesity, cardiovascular diseases, and mental health disorders. Moreover, the study identifies environmental factors, social influences, and policy gaps that contribute to the sedentary lifestyles of urban residents. Based on the findings, recommendations are provided for urban planners, policymakers, and community stakeholders to develop targeted interventions, such as enhancing recreational spaces, promoting active transportation, and raising awareness about the importance of physical activity. This research underscores the critical need for comprehensive strategies to encourage physical activity, improve urban health, and enhance the overall well-being of Kaduna Metropolis residents.
