Workplace Variables and Business Educators’ Job Performance in University of Calabar, Calabar Cross River State of Nigeria

ABSTRACT The study examined workplace variables and business educators’ job performance in university of Calabar. To achieve the purpose of the study, three research questions were posed and three hypotheses were formulated to guide the study. Literature was reviewed in line with the variables under study. The study adopted a survey research design. The population for the study was 32 business educators’ from university of Calabar, Nigeria. Census population was used. A 28 item validated researcher-made four points rating scale questionnaire titled “Workplace Variables and Business Educators’ Job Performance Questionnaire” (WVBEJPQ) was used for data collection. The instrument was face and content validated by three research experts. The data were analyzed using simple linear regression. All the hypotheses were tested at .05 level of significance. Findings revealed that physical work environment, staff interpersonal relationship and career progression, significantly influenced business educators’ job performance in University of Calabar. Based on the findings of the study, it was recommended amongst others that, owners of University – federal government should ensure that they provide the right quality of furniture and equipment, conducive working environment and an illuminated work area for business educators to operate.
