Abstract
Abstract This research investigates the stylistic and rhetorical features of inshā’ ṭalabī (requestive or imperative constructions) in the sermons of Sheikh Abdullah Owis Limanthi. It aims to identify and analyze the various linguistic forms of commands, prohibitions, interrogations, wishes, and vocatives used by the preacher to convey messages effectively. The study adopts the descriptive and analytical methods to explore eight selected sermons, focusing on how these stylistic tools enhance persuasion and emotional impact on the audience. Findings reveal that Sheikh Owis masterfully employs requestive expressions to achieve religious guidance, moral reform, and spiritual motivation. The study concludes that the preacher’s eloquence reflects the richness of Arabic rhetoric in West African Islamic scholarship and contributes significantly to the preservation and continuation of classical Arabic stylistic traditions in contemporary Nigeria.
