Abstract
Meat is an essential part of human diet as it serves as a source of protein thus some trace metal contaminants that are present in ponmo sold out in Ado-Ekiti were investigated to ascertain the extent to which it is fit for human consumption, samples of ponmo were collected from selected locations which includes Oja-oba, roadside, retail out let labeled A and analyzed for the presence of trace metals and the concentration of the trace metals were determined using atomic absorption spectrophotometer. Trace metals found were Zinc, Chromium, Copper, Cadmium and Lead. Concentration of lead (3.51 ± 5.75) was high which was found to be the highest while Chromium and Copper were the lowest which implied that the concentration of lead is higher than the recommended value by WHO while the concentration of other traced metal were below that recommended value by WHO. This was therefore recommended that the meat is not fit for human consumption.
