Abstract
This research examines the methods of simile and metaphor used in the poetic collection Qawalib al-Dahr by Shazali Abdullah. The study aims to analyze the stylistic and rhetorical techniques employed by the poet to express his thoughts, emotions, and experiences through figurative language. Simile and metaphor are among the most important rhetorical devices that enrich Arabic poetry, giving it depth, beauty, and emotional power. The research highlights how Shazali Abdullah utilizes these figures of speech to convey philosophical reflections, social commentary, and aesthetic imagery. A descriptive and analytical method is adopted to identify various types of similes and metaphors, their structures, and their artistic functions within the text. The findings reveal that the poet’s use of these rhetorical tools demonstrates a high level of creativity and linguistic mastery, reflecting both classical Arabic influence and modern poetic sensibility. The study contributes to the understanding of Arabic literary expression and supports further analysis of contemporary Arabic poetry in relation to traditional rhetorical forms.
