Abstract
Nigeria has been ranked the 11th most polluted country in the world by a 2024 survey carried out by IQAir. The environment is negatively affected by the activities of humans. Environmental pollution has caused a lot of wreck and havoc to the lives and properties of Nigerians. To this end, this project examined notable environmental challenges in Nigeria. This project also analysed the legal framework for remedies available for victims of environmental pollution in Nigeria. This project further analysed the two primary categories of remedies available to victims of environmental pollution in Nigeria; Criminal remedies, aimed at punishing polluters and civil remedies focused on victim redress. This project employed the use of doctrinal methodology of research. This project finds significant systemic and procedural barriers undermining the delivery of justice. This project concludes this environmental discourse by highlighting the urgent need for institutional overhauls, legislative reformations and specialised environmental courts to transform remedial provisions from symbolic gestures into actionable tools for victim protection and ecological sustainability.
