Determinants of Teaching Practice Exercise and Student-Teachers’ Mastery of English Language Among Undergraduate Students of University of Uyo

The study determined the relationship between determinants of teaching practice exercise and student-teachers mastery of English language among undergraduate students of University of Uyo. Four purposes of the study, four research questions and four hypotheses were raised and formulated to guide the study. A correlational research design was adopted while the population of the study comprised all the 2,385 year three students in the Faculty of Education, University of Uyo, Uyo for the 2022/2023 academic session. A sample size of 280 year 3 undergraduates which represents 10 percent of the study population was selected through multi-stage sampling technique. The researcher-developed and validated instrument titled "Determinants of Teaching Practice and Student-teachers' Mastery of English Language Questionnaire (DTPSMELQ) was used for data collection. Pearson Product Moment Correlation (PPMC) statistics was used for data analysis and the results revealed a very high positive and significant relationship between lesson planning, lesson delivery, use of educational materials and positive learning environment and student-teachers mastery of English language among undergraduate students of University of Uyo. Conclusion was drawn and recommendation amongst others is that student-teachers should always prepare ahead for the future and they should understand that teaching practice exercise is a fundamental aspect to the teaching profession by being proactive in their micro-teaching class.
