ABSTRACT The evaluation of airborne microorganisms associated with retail shops located within federal polytechnic nekede, owerri. Microbial content of air from retail shops was investigated in this study using standard microbiological techniques. result of the microbial load of airborne microorganisms of retail shops within federal polytechnic Nekede samples had total viable bacteria count ranging from 64x10} to 110x10* (cfu/g), where total coliform count recorded ranged from 32x10} to SSx10} (cfu/g). While the total fungi count ranged from 8x10ª to 35x10? (cfu/g). The bacteria isolates obtained were Staphylococcus species, Pseudomonas species and Bacillus species. The bacteria isolates obtained were Staphylococcus species, Pseudomonas species and Bacillus species, Micrococcus species and E. coli While fungi isolates gotten where Aspergillus species, Cladosporium species and Penicillium species, the percentage occurrence of the bacteria isolates from airborne microorganisms of retail shops within federal polytechnic Nekede Owerri Imo State. The frequency and percentage occurrence include Pseudomonas 9(13.0), Bacillus species 19(27.53), Escherichia coli 15(21.74), Micrococcus species 14(20.29) and Staphylococcus species 12(17.39). Bacillus species has the highest occurring bacteria while Staphylococcus species has the least occurring bactria.
