Abstract
ABSTRACT This study was aimed at identifying some bioactive compounds in Phyllantus amarus leaf. Fresh sample of Phyllantus amarus leaf was dried, crushed with mortar and pestle and extracted with 95% ethanol and fractionated into serial eluates using column chromatography. Equal volume of n-hexane and ethyl acetate was used as eluent. The first eluate was subjected t GC-MS and FTIR analysis. The results obtained shows the presence of some compounds in the first eluate of Phyllantus amarus extract including 9-octadecenoic acid, Cyclohexanone, ethyl oleate, Fluconazole, 1-ethyl-2-hydroxymethyl imidazole, Dodecanoic acid etc. 9-Octadecenoic acid which has the medicinal value in wound healing, reduction of inflammation in the body and helping to lower bad cholesterol levels while increasing good cholesterol levels. Cyclohexanone is known for pain relief, antimicrobial effects against certain bacteria and fungi and as a potential anesthetic agent. Fluconazole exerts potential fungal infection treatment, including yeast infections of the vagina, mouth, throat, esophagus and other organs. 1-ethyl-2-hydroxymethylimidazole possesses various potential pharmacological activities, including anti-cancer, anti-tubercular, anti-inflammatory and analgesic effects.
