Abstract
ABSTRACT This study investigates the comparative evaluation of limestone aggregate in bituminous mixture for enhanced road surface performance, with a comparison to granite aggregates. The research evaluates the effects of bitumen content, stability, air voids, and gradation on the performance of both materials. The results indicate that the optimum bitumen content for both limestone and granite aggregates is 6.17%, resulting in adequate stability and performance. Limestone mixtures showed slightly higher stability (14.9 kN) and lower air voids (4.5%) compared to granite. However, both materials fell under Zone C in gradation, making them suitable only for binder courses and not wearing courses. Further adjustments in fine aggregate content are recommended to make them suitable for wearing courses. The findings suggest that both materials are viable for binder courses, with limestone offering marginally better performance in terms of stability and durability. The study highlights the importance of optimizing aggregate gradation and bitumen content for achieving high-performance asphalt mixtures.
