Abstract
The intake of animal protein in Lesser Developed Countries (LDCs) such as Nigeria has been documented as grossly inadequate and means of improvement is also subject of interest to nutritionists.Poverty reduction and food security challenges in terms of provision of high quality meat for the significant proportion of Nigerian population is one of the Millennium Development Goals (MDG) aimed at improving the living standard of the citizenry. Rabbit meat is flavourful and easily digested, with high nutritional and dietetic properties: this meat contains 20-21% of proteins, unsaturated fatty acids (oleic and linoleic; 60% of all fatty acids), potassium, phosphorus, and magnesium, it has low concentrations of fat, cholesterol, and sodium. That is why the rabbit meat is better digested as compared to other kinds of meat (beef, lamb, or pork). The experimental study was carried out in some part of Funtua Local Government area of Katsina State. The experiment was aimed at sourcing interest in people to accept production and consumption of rabbit's meat as an alternative source of protein to poultry meat in Funtua Local Government that could be easily be available to the state and Nigeria at large, and to also access rabbit farming in funtua local government area, katsina state.
