Assessment of Radio Campaign on Safe Sex and Level of Compliance Among Youths in Offa Community.

Abstract
This study is an assessment of radio campaign on safe sex and level of compliance among youths in Offa community. The study was guided by four objectives, which are to find out the level of safe sex campaign awareness among the youths in Offa, to find out the youths’ knowledge about sex and sexual behaviours against HIV/AIDS, to find out the level of influence safe sex campaign has on the attitude of the youths towards unprotected sex and to examine the knowledge of the youths about the risk involved in unprotected sex. Quantitative research approach was employed while survey method was employed. Taro Yamane model was used to arrive at the sample size for the study. Frequency distribution table and percentage was used in presenting and analyzing the data gathered for the study. The data gathered revealed that the level of safe sex campaign awareness through radio campaign among the youths in Offa is high, the respondents opined that radio mobilizes the youth through information campaigns about living on positive life, sexuality and reproductive health, safe sex campaign has influence on the attitude of the average youths towards unprotected sex, and that the level of compliance to safe sex campaign from radio has increased over time, just as majority of the respondents were of the opinion that radio campaign play vital role in sensitizing and mobilizing youths on safe sex in Offa community. From the findings of the data analyzed, it was concluded that the respondents are exposed to safe sex campaign through various channels such as radio, television and hospitals. The study recommended that the Ministry of Health at both federal and state level should collaborate with the media to increase awareness on the benefits of safe sex through appropriate campaign message that can influence the people to adhere to safe sex and that electronic media should design programmes specifically for safe sex and should be aired at prime time periods when majority of the target audience (the youths) would be available to listen/watch the programme.
