Abstract
ABSTRACT The purpose of this study was to evaluate the constraints of teaching and learning of Agricultural Science in Senior Secondary Schools within the metropolitans in Kaduna State. The objectives of the study were: to determine the current status of teaching and learning of Agricultural Science as a subject in senior secondary schools within the metropolitans, uncover the institutional-based problems of teaching and learning of Agricultural Science in the selected schools; and to determine the non institutional-based problems of teaching and learning of Agricultural Science in Senior Secondary Schools within the metropolitans. Descriptive survey research design was used for the study. Questionnaires were used as an instrument for data collection. The study was carried out in 8 senior secondary schools within the metropolitans in Kaduna State where we have two (2) cities i.e Kaduna city and Zaria city. The eight (8) Senior Secondary Schools were randomly selected in Kaduna city and Zaria city which were made up of two (2) public schools and two (2) private schools. The respondents were selected from each schools randomly with three (3) from SSS I, four (4) from SSS II, and five (5) from SSS III, forming twelve (12) students per school. The teachers were two (2) from each schools leading to ninety six (96) students and sixteen (16) teachers in all. It was concluded that institutional factors influence teaching/learning of Agricultural Science in Senior Secondary Schools in Kaduna State within the metropolitans. It was recommended that schools should make provision for farm land for practical and society should encourage students offering of subject.
