An Analysis of Performance of Tambuwal Local Government and Development of Rural Communities in Sokoto State (2015-2023).

ABSTRACT This study examines the performance of Tambuwal Local Government in facilitating the development of rural communities in Sokoto State between 2015 and 2023. Local governments play a pivotal role in promoting grassroots development, improving the living standards of rural populations, and addressing socio-economic challenges. This research evaluates the strategies, policies, and programs implemented by the Tambuwal Local Government during the period under review, assessing their impact on key sectors such as education, healthcare, infrastructure, and economic empowerment. The study adopts a mixed-method approach, incorporating both qualitative and quantitative data collected through surveys, interviews, focus group discussions, and secondary data from government reports, academic publications, and policy documents. It critically analyzes the effectiveness of governance, resource allocation, and stakeholder engagement in achieving sustainable rural development. Findings reveal significant progress in some areas, including improved access to healthcare services and rural road development, while highlighting persistent challenges such as inadequate funding, corruption, and limited community participation. The research provides actionable recommendations to enhance the performance of local governments, emphasizing transparency, participatory governance, and strategic planning. This study contributes to the broader discourse on local governance and rural development in Nigeria, offering insights that can inform policy reforms and promote sustainable development in rural communities across Sokoto State and beyond.
