Abstract
The management of construction and demolition waste (C&DW) remains a critical environmental and operational challenge in Nigeria's construction industry. With the increasing call for sustainable construction practices, the integration of digital technologies such as Building Information Modeling (BIM), Internet of Things (IoT), Artificial Intelligence (AI), and robotics is gaining global attention as a strategic approach to waste minimization. This study evaluates the level of awareness, adoption, perceived benefits, and challenges of using digital technologies for C&DW management among construction professionals in Lagos State. A quantitative research method was employed, using a structured questionnaire distributed to a purposively selected sample of 95 construction professionals, including quantity surveyors, architects, engineers, and project managers. The data collected were analyzed using descriptive statistical tools. The findings revealed that while there is a moderate level of awareness of digital tools like BIM and IoT, their practical application in waste management remains limited. Cost of implementation, lack of technical expertise, inadequate training, and low organizational commitment were identified as major barriers. Despite these challenges, respondents acknowledged the potential of digital technologies in enhancing sustainability, reducing material waste, and improving project efficiency. The study concludes that although the Nigerian construction sector, particularly in Lagos State, has started recognizing the relevance of digital solutions, there is a pressing need for policy support, capacity building, and stakeholder engagement to accelerate widespread adoption.
