Influence of Administrative Duties on Principles Performance in Secondary School in Dutsin-Ma Local Government Area of Katsina State Nigeria

Abstract
ABSTRACT The study investigated influence of administrative duties on the performance of secondary school principals in Dutsin-Ma Local Government Area, Katsina State, Nigeria. Three objectives were stated. Four research questions were raised in line with the objectives and three null hypotheses were formulated and tested. The study adopted the descriptive survey research design; the population of the study comprises 317 principals and teachers of secondary education in Dutsin-Ma from which 5 principals and 95 teachers were randomly selected as sample for the study. The instrument used was a self developed questionnaire which was validated by two experts in admin and planning and measurement and evaluation unit. The research questions were answered using descriptive statistics such as mean and standard deviation while the hypotheses one was tested using Pearson Correlation and hypothesis two and three were tested using the t-test of independent at 0.05 level of significance. From the analysis, all hypotheses were retained. The findings of the study revealed that financial management, managing student admissions and managing school resources are primary administrative duties performed by secondary school principals in Dutsin-Ma Local Government Area and that there is no significant relationship between the administrative duties of principals and their instructional leadership in secondary schools in Dutsin-Ma Local Government Area. It was equally concluded that supervision of classroom instruction, mentoring and developing teachers these administrative duties affect principals' instructional leadership roles to a high extent and that administrative responsibilities have no significant effect on the overall performance of secondary schools in Dutsin-Ma Local Government Area. Based on the findings, it was recommended among others that schools should employ administrative officers to handle financial and resource management tasks, allowing principals to concentrate on instructional leaders
