Abstract
ABSTRACT The adsorption of chromium(VI) ions from aqueous solutions was investigated under varying conditions of adsorbent dosage, pH, contact time, and initial adsorbate concentration. The results showed that adsorption capacity decreased with increasing adsorbent dosage, from 83.29 mg/g at 0.1 g dosage to 4.16 mg/g at 2.0 g, due to the underutilization of available binding sites. The effect of pH on adsorption was minimal, with adsorption capacity values ranging between 27.20 mg/g and 27.76 mg/g, indicating stability across different pH levels. Contact time showed little influence on adsorption, with equilibrium reached within the first few minutes and maintained over 140 minutes, with adsorption capacity values stabilizing around 27.24 mg/g. Adsorption capacity increased with higher initial chromium(VI) concentrations, reaching 160.47 mg/g at 500 mg/L, suggesting a strong driving force for mass transfer at elevated concentrations. The study findings align with previous research, confirming the effectiveness of the adsorbent under various conditions and providing valuable insights for optimizing chromium(VI) removal from wastewater.
