Abstract
ABSTRACT This study examines the mineralogical and geochemical characteristics of charnockitic rocks in Ikere-Ekiti, Southwestern Nigeria. Field observations, petrographic studies, and geochemical analyses were conducted to determine the mineral composition, texture, and chemical properties of the charnockites. The results indicate that the rocks are predominantly composed of quartz, feldspar (microcline and plagioclase), biotite, and hornblende, with varying proportions of accessory minerals. Geochemical analysis reveals a high silica content, enrichment in alkali elements, and moderate iron and magnesium levels, suggesting a felsic origin. The study also highlights the role of crustal melting and Pan-African tectonism in the evolution of these rocks.
