Assessment of Biology Students’ Attitude and Motivation Towards Learning of Biology Subject Among Students of Science Secondary Schools in Nassarawa Local Government Kano, Kano State

ABSTRACT This study investigates the attitudes and motivation of biology students towards learning the subject in Science secondary schools in Nassarawa Local Government, Kano State. The research aims to understand the diverse attitudes and motivation levels of students towards biology and explore the impact of the school environment on their perceptions of the subject. Through a comprehensive assessment, key findings reveal a spectrum of attitudes among students, varying levels of motivation, and the significant influence of the school environment on student engagement in biology education. The study highlights the importance of addressing student attitudes and motivation to enhance their learning experiences and academic performance in biology. Recommendations are proposed to tailor teaching strategies, provide professional development for teachers, enhance the curriculum, establish support systems, encourage parental involvement, and conduct further research. These proactive measures aim to create a supportive and stimulating learning environment that fosters a positive attitude and high motivation levels among students, ultimately promoting academic success and a lifelong interest in biology education. By exploring student attitudes and motivation towards learning biology in Science secondary schools in Nassarawa Local Government, Kano State, this study contributes valuable insights to inform evidence-based practices, policy development, and interventions aimed at improving biology education outcomes and nurturing a culture of curiosity and exploration among students.
