Determinants of Labour Turnover Among Private and Public Universities in Ekiti State Nigeria, a Comparative Study

Abstract
Abstract The study investigate the determinants of labour turnover among private and public Universities in Ekiti State Nigeria, a comparative study. The specific objectives are to investigate the effect of Job satisfaction on labour turnover; examine the effects of working environment on labour turnover; determine effects of supervisory support on labour turnover and assess effects of work flexibility on labour turnover among private and public Universities in Ekiti State, Nigeria. The population for the research is the entire academic staff of private and public Universities in Ekiti State, Nigeria. The population of this study is made up of 1563 members of academic staff of the public and private Universities in Ekiti State, Nigeria. The sample for the study was 318 gotten from Taro model. The data collected was subjected to both descriptive and inferential statistics. The descriptive statistics was mainly frequency tables. Hierarchical regression analyses were used to evaluate the determinants of academic Staff retention in Universities in Ekiti states of Nigeria. Data gathered were sorted, coded and analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics. The descriptive statistics includes frequency tables and statistical charts. The results revealed that there is significant relationship between job satisfaction working environment, supervisory support, work flexibility and academic staff turnover in universities in Ekiti state Nigeria. The study concluded that job satisfaction, salary, promotion, and leadership are important among the academics who took part in this study. There are intrinsic, as well as extrinsic, factors that affect the academic retention process. This is because the academic staff see job satisfaction as the most important aspect; job satisfaction was regarded as an intrinsic element that motivates staff to stay within their job.
