Abstract
This study aims to evaluate the impact of D-Ribose L-cysteine (DRLC) on hematological parameters in mice exposed to Bisphenol A (BPA), a widespread environmental contaminant known for its endocrine-disrupting properties. Thirty-six adult male mice were randomly divided into three groups: Control, BPA-exposed, and BPA-exposed supplemented with DRLC. The control group received a standard diet, the BPA-exposed group was administered BPA at a dose of 50 mg/kg body weight, and the BPA + DRLC group received the same dose of BPA along with a diet enriched in lycopene compounds. Hematological parameters, including red blood cell (RBC) count, white blood cell (WBC) count, hemoglobin level (Hl), Mean corpuscular hemoglobin (MCH), Mean corpuscular volume (MCV), and Packed cell volume, were measured after Two weeks of exposure. BPA exposure significantly altered hematological parameters, indicated by a reduction in RBC count, Hemoglobin level and PCV, along with an increase in WBC count. Supplementation with DRLC ameliorated these adverse effects, showing a considerable improvement in RBC count, Hemoglobin level, and PCV levels compared to the BPA-exposed group. Furthermore, DRLC administration normalized WBC counts, bringing them closer to control values. DRLC exhibits a protective effect against BPA-induced hematotoxicity in mice. The inclusion of DRLC in the diet may mitigate the hematological disruptions caused by BPA exposure, suggesting a potential therapeutic strategy for managing BPA toxicity. Further studies are warranted to elucidate the underlying mechanisms and to explore the translational potential of these findings in human populations exposed to BPA.
