Abstract
Abstract Medicinal plants play a vital role in drug discovery and natural therapy due to their bioactive compounds. Serenoa repens, commonly known as Saw Palmetto, has been traditionally used for treating benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) and other inflammatory conditions. This study investigates the chemical composition and antimicrobial properties of Palmetto fruit extract using Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry (GC-MS) and microbiological assays. GC-MS analysis identified twenty-one bioactive compounds, including fatty acids, esters, alcohols, and hydrocarbons, with significant pharmacological potential. The antimicrobial assessment revealed that the extract exhibited a concentration-dependent inhibitory effect against Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and Klebsiella pneumonia, demonstrating notable antibacterial and antifungal activity. These findings highlight the potential applications of Palmetto fruit extract in natural medicine and pharmaceutical industries. Further research is recommended to explore its mechanism of action, toxicological profile, and possible synergistic effects with existing antibiotics.
