Effects of Group Counseling on the Psychological Adjustment of Students Living With Hiv/aids in Ila Local Government Area of Osun State

Abstract

This research examined the effects of group counseling on the psychological adjustmint of sortents living with HIV/AIDS in ila local government area of Osun of State. The population for the study consisted of public senior secondary see tudents in ila Local government secondary. sole of 100 respondents were sampled, 25 respondents each from 5 public seconsery schools were selected indent wimp samaned resigne Data were gathered using a ser-Students di questionnaire titled "Group Counselling on the Psychological Adjustment of seidents Living with HIV/AID$ Questionnaire" (OCPASHIV/AIDSQ). The validity ana thiability of instrument were ascertained. Three null hypotheses were formulated and tested in the study. The finding from the null hypothesis revealed that there is no significant difference between group counseling on psychosocial adjustment of students living with HIV/AIDS in lla Local Government Area of Osun State. It was concluded that symptom assessment provides information that may be valuable in evaluating HIV/AIDS treatment regimens and defining strategies to improve quality of life. Because of the high levels of symptoms reported, the results imply an urgent need for effective health care, home- and community-based as well as self-care symptom management to help patients and their families manage and control AIDS symptoms. It was recommended that the HIV/AIDS patients should receive multidimensional care from healthcare providers that reflects the nature of their problems, that is, the social, the psychological (e.g., worry and sadness), and the physical (e.g., pain). The communication and information needs of patients should be considered by healthcare providers for effective provision of multidimensional care.
