A Survey on Robbery Incidence and Its Health Consequences Among Students Living in Private Hostels in Abraka Delta State

Abstract
The study was carried out to investigate Robbery incidence and its health consequences among students living in private hostels in Abraka, Delta State. To guide the study, two research questions and one research hypothesis were raised and formulated. The study adopted a descriptive survey design. The population of the study is 2600 students living in 5 private hostels in Abraka, Delta state while the sample population of the study is 200 students randomly selected from 5 various hostels in Abraka. The instrument used for gathering data from the respondents is the research questionnaire whose reliability index was established at 0.57 using the test-retest method. The data collected were analyzed using frequency counts percentage sum and mean for the Research question and T-test for Research Hypothesis. The finding of the study revealed that fear physical assault and injury are often health consequences experienced from robbery incidents by students residing in the private hostel Abraka and there is no significant difference between the number of robbery incidents experienced and its health consequences among students residing in private Hostel. The following recommendations were made;1 security of life and properties in private Hostels in Abraka should be a primary concern to owners of private Hostels 2. Security modalities should be put in place in private Hostels to reduce the incidence of Hostel robbery in private Hostels in Abraka, Delta state. This work contributed to knowledge in the following way; The Robbery incidence in private Hostels in Abraka does not have a significant relationship/influence on the health of the victims in private Hostels among others
