Abstract

ABSTRACT This study assesses the water quality mapping of iree and its environment in Osun State, Nigeria. Groundwater is a vital resource for sustaining livelihoods, agricultural activities, and providing drinking water in Nigeria and Africa at large. The study aimed to comprehensively investigate the physico-chemcal characteristics and bacteriological parameters concentration levels in groundwater in Iree town Osun State Nigeria and produce its quality information map using GIS. The objectives are to select and sample groundwater resources within the study area, to carry out physico-chemical and bacteriological analysis of water samples, to evaluate potential health hazards and environmental impact of the parameters analysed, and to produce groundwater quality information Maps for the study area using GIS software. The result revealed that all physico- chemical concentration value for all the study area are within maximum permissible limit except phosphate which is higher than WHO and Nigeria guideline limit. It is also recommended that the Local government leaders ensure a proper development of a public water system treatment plant to ensure good quality drinking water for people in the studied area.
