Abstract
The study titled "Evaluation of Body Anthropometry as a Screening Tool for Cardiovascular Diseases (CVD) of Patients Attending Murtala Muhammad Specialists Hospital, Kano" investigates the relationship between anthropometric measurements and cardiovascular disease risk. Given the alarming prevalence of CVD globally, this research aims to assess how body measurements such as Body Mass Index (BMI), Waist-to-Hip Ratio (WHR), Waist-to-Height Ratio (WHtR), Waist Circumference (WC), and Hip Circumference (HC) can serve as reliable indicators for early detection and risk assessment of CVD. The study highlights that cardiovascular diseases, including coronary heart disease, stroke, and peripheral artery disease, are among the leading causes of mortality worldwide. Lifestyle choices such as poor diet, lack of physical activity, smoking, and alcohol consumption significantly contribute to the growing burden of CVD. The research also emphasizes that CVD-related deaths are disproportionately high in low- and middle-income countries, where access to preventive healthcare is often limited. By analyzing anthropometric parameters, the study seeks to determine sex-based variations in these measurements, assess their correlation with CVD prevalence, and evaluate their effectiveness as screening tools. The findings could help healthcare professionals and policymakers develop more effective screening programs and preventive strategies. Additionally, the study underscores the importance of lifestyle modifications in mitigating CVD risk and promoting public awareness about preventive health measures.
