Abstract
Self-compacting concrete has emerged as a modern system of concrete production in nearly all the developed nations of the world. The system involved the use of high range of water reducing admixture to produce a flowing concrete, thus eliminating the need for external vibrator. This project presents the study on fresh and hardened property of self-compacting concrete using Okro powder as admixture in different percentages. Okro was obtained and was grinded for 30mins, 1hr, 1:30mins, each of this specimen undergo weight sieving analysis. Physical properties such as particle size, color and texture of Okro powder were tested .The method adopted for this study included casting of 18 cubes as control, 18 cubes for 0.5%, 1.0%, 1.5% of Okro powder as admixture and 18 cubes for 0.5%,1.0%and 1.5% using Okro as addictive, curing and crushing at 7, 14, 21 and 28 days respectively. Fresh property such as flow ability was tested with the aid of superplasticizer while hardened properties such as compressive strength was tested at 7, 14,21 and 28 days. The study revealed that the use of Okro as admixture demonstrated good flow ability, possibility and compressive strength. The compressive strength control sample of 7, 14,21 and 28 days demonstrated a satisfying strength as compared to the control. The compressive strength test of self-compacting concrete, made of 5% and 10% Okro powder as admixture demonstrated higher strength value. However, Okro powder mixed up of 1.5% admixture is suitable for production of Self compacting concrete
