Investigating the Challenges and Solutions of Teaching Practice Experiences of Integrated Science Student-Teachers in Delta State University, Abraka

Abstract

This study examined the effects teaching practice experienced by Integrated Science student-teachers' during teaching practice in Delta State University, Abraka students. Seven (7) research questions were raised to guide the study and four (4) research hypotheses were formulated. Descriptive survey design was adopted and a total number of fifty-seven (57) respondents were used as the sample of the study. The main instrument used to collect data from the sampled schools was a questionnaire. The collected data through the administration of the questionnaire was analyzed using simple percentage count and Chi-square test statistics to test the hypotheses at 0.05 alpha level. The findings of the study were: learning environment, curriculum development, instructional materials and attitude of supervisors are a challenges experienced by Integrated Science student-teachers' during teaching practice by students of Delta State University, Abraka. It is recommended that supervisors should consider availability of adequate school facilities, while judging the performance of student teachers during teaching practice exercise and develop positive attitude towards the exercise.
