Abstract
This study examined the impact of social media on the political views of Student Union Government (SUG) members in Osun State Polytechnic, Iree. It aimed to explore patterns of social media use, assess its influence on political attitudes, and determine how it shapes political participation among students. The study adopted a quantitative research design using survey methods. A total of 120 respondents were selected through simple random sampling from five departments, and data were analyzed using percentages and descriptive statistics. Findings revealed that most SUG members use social media platforms such as Facebook, WhatsApp, and Twitter to access political information and engage in discussions. The study established a positive relationship between social media usage and students’ political awareness, indicating that social media has become an effective tool for mobilization, enlightenment, and political participation among youth. The research concluded that social media enhances civic consciousness and political engagement but recommended that students employ it responsibly for constructive political discourse.
