Design and Installation of Intercommunication System for Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering

The design and installation of an intercommunication system using a Private Automatic Branch Exchange (PABX) were carried out for the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering. This project aims to enhance communication within the department by deploying a structured telephony network, eliminating the need for external telephone lines for internal communication. The PABX system was installed as the central switching unit, allowing seamless connectivity between designated office extensions through twisted- pair cabling and modular RJ11 wall sockets. The installation process involved strategic placement of the PABX unit, routing of telephone lines through 2mm conduit pipes, and ensuring optimal connectivity via RJ11 connectors. The system was tested to confirm it's efficiency in establishing voice communication between offices. The results indicated successful connectivity, proper power distribution, and effective call routing within the network. This project not only improves interdepartmental communication but also reduces operational costs by utilizing a single network for multiple extensions. Additionally, the study highlights the technical and practical aspects of PABX system implementation, contributing to knowledge in structured telephony infrastructure. Future recommendations include integrating Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) for enhanced communication flexibility and scalability.
