Phytochemistry and Antimycotic Assay of Boreria Verticilliata and Senna Alata Leaves Extract Against Dermatophytes

Abstract

The phytochemisty and antimycotic assay of Borreria verticiliata and Senna alata leaves extract against dermatophytes investigates the phytochemical constituents and antimycotic activity of Boreria verticilliata and Senna alata leaves extracts against tinea capitis and Tinea corporis. Fresh leaves of both plants were collected, air-dried, macerated and extracted using ethanol and aqueous solvents. Phytochemical screening revealed the presence of bioactive compounds such as alkaloids, flavonoids, tannis, saponins and phenolics. The antifungal activity of the extracts were evaluated using disc diffusion method against microsporum gypseum. The results showed that Senna alata plants extracts exhibited more degrees of inhibitory activities of 30mm than Borerria verticilliata 14mm with ethanol extracts demonstrating higher antifungal potential than aqueous extracts in both plants. These finding reveals that Boreria verticilliata and Senna alata possess significant phytochemicals that may contribute to their antifungal properties, highlighting their potential as sources of novel antifungal agents. I recommend that more research should be carried out on this work probably on the synergy.
