Impact of Leadership on Employee Performance ( a Study of Selected Organizations in Owerri, Imo State)

Abstract
This study investigated the impact of leadership style on the employee performance using Nigeria Breweries Plc, Access Bank Plc and First Bank Plc all in Owerri, Imo state. The specific objectives of this study include finding out the extent to which leadership style affect employee’s in selected business organizations in Owerri, investigating the effective leadership is a determine factor in achieving organizational goals and to find out if there is any relationship between democratic leadership style and employee’s performance. The sampling technique adopted in this study was simple random sampling where every staff in the selected business organization in Owerri has equal chance of being selected. The staff of the company was randomly selected. The population of the study is 250 where the sample size of 154 was determined using Taro Yamane statistical formular. The study therefore concluded that the impact of leadership style on organizational performance can be over emphasized. In turn, the employee’s sense of security arises out of perceiving this behaviour as distinct from hearing the right smoothing words. The researcher therefore recommended that to ensure optimum performance of workers in the selected business organization in Owerri, leaders should adopt the democratic style of leadership, leaders should imbibe the idea of full utilization of employees and A manager should avoid human relation characterized by unhappy, insensitive, unproductive or disruptive philosophy in Nigeria such as master-servant relationship; ethnicity, corruption and personal goal oriented should be avoided
