Knowledge, Attitude, Practice and Misconceptions Towards Exclusive Breastfeeding Among Lactating Mothers Attending Sheikh, Khalifa Isyaka Rabiu( Pediatric) Hospital, Kano State.

Abstract
Exclusive breastfeeding provide nutritional immunological, developmental and psychological advantage with regards to general health growth and development of an infant and dramatically reduced infant death by reducing infectious diseases. This study was designed to assess the knowledge, attitude, practice and misconceptions towards exclusive breastfeeding among lactating mothers attending Khalifa Sheikh Isiyaka Rabiu Hospital Kano state. A written data collection instrument containing 250 questionnaires was used to collect data. Majority of the respondents were between 31-40 years with 59.2%. 48.8% of the respondents occupation were business women. The result indicated that 65.2% had adequate knowledge about exclusive breastfeeding while 12% had no knowledge. Finding from this study showed that 48% of mothers had practice exclusive breastfeeding,26.8% agree,22.4% disagree and 2.8% strongly disagree.44.8% strongly agreed to believe exclusive breastfeeding as the best choice, 36.8% agree while 17.6% disagree and 0.8% strongly disagree. Based on the findings this study was conducted that there is adequate knowledge on exclusive breastfeeding among the respondents (mothers), had good practice and attitudes towards exclusive breastfeeding.
