Meat Quality, Carcass Characteristics and Economic Attributes of Broiler Finisher Chickens Fed Low Crude Protein Diets With Acidifier Supplementation

Abstract

This experiment was conducted to evaluate the effects acidifier supplementation to a low crude protein diets of Broiler finisher chickens from 35 to 56 days of age on meat quality, post slaughter attributes and economics of production. A total of sixty (60), 35-days old Arbor acre broilers chicks were randomly distributed into five dietary treatments of three replicates with four birds each in a completely randomized design. Five isocaloric diets were formulated and fed ad-libitum to the experimental birds for feeding trial that lasted for 21days. Birds on treatment 2 was contained 4% less Crude Protein than control diet having 16% low crude protein diet (LCPD). Birds on treatment 3, 4, and 5 contained LCPD with graded levels of acidifier at 100, 200 and 300 mg/kg, respectively. At the termination of the feeding trial on day 56, three birds per each treatment were selected and meat quality and carcass trait indices were evaluated. The current market prices of ingredients at the time of the experiment were used to estimate the cost parameters.
