Influence of Office Environment on Secretaries’ Productivity in Government Establishments

Abstract This study focused on influence of office environment on secretaries’ productivity in government establishments, case study of Osun State Service Commission and ministry of education Osogbo, Osun State. The population of the study comprised 40 secretaries working in both ministries. For the purpose of collecting information, various literature and textbooks were consulted. Also a well structured questionnaire was constructed, administered on the subject. The frame work for data collection of the research work was built on three (3) research questions. (i) To what extent does good office equipment have significant influence on secretaries’ productivity in government establishments? (ii) To what extent does good office layout have significant influence on secretaries’ productivity in government establishments? (iii) To what extent does good office facilities and furniture have significant influence on secretaries’ productivity in government establishments? The questionnaire was distributed by hand. Responses to the research questions were analyzed using simple mean method. The findings revealed that good office machine and equipment have influence on secretarial productivity in record management. It was concluded that good office equipment have influence on secretarial productivity in information management, it was also concluded that office layout have influence on secretarial productivity. It was recommended that management should provide conducive environment for secretary. It was also recommended that management of business organization should make provision for close office secretary.
